What do we know about Anthem so far?

Anthem will be a multiplayer title based in a futuristic setting, which brings together elements of both an action role-playing game and a third-person shooter. It has been developed by BioWare, with Electronic Arts publishing the project.

The name of the title is actually the same name given to powerful tools used by Gods in the game to create worlds and Anthem was used to create its own location, which we will soon be able to play in.

It will be your job to take on different missions across this unknown planet, fight against an enemy faction known as Dominion, protect the ancient artefacts of this world and stop all evil.

Anthem is not expected to have any DLC or Season Pass post-launch, lead producer Michael Gamble revealed in December.

What have we seen?

In terms of what we’ve seen so far from Anthem, BioWare’s VIP demo weekend didn’t get the game off to the best of starts – that’s for sure.

It was a demo plagued with issues, whether that was locking people who’d already pre-ordered the game out of the trial version, server issues, infinite loads screens or the slow pace of the game inside the social hub, or Tarsis.

While some might argue that there’s still quite a bit of work to be done to get this project completely ready to go for launch day, the developer’s General Manager has reassured potential players that the game will be up to speed by the time the full game is revealed.

One huge positive to take from what we’ve seen so far is that the story mode looked incredible in the gameplay livestreams and videos, devs have kept their cards firmly towards their chest where that’s concerned for the demo version.

So, even though there were some clear issues that needed to be investigated and addressed by BioWare, we’ve still potentially got a lot to look forward to.

What’s coming up for Anthem?

BioWare has already announced that a number of hot fixes are coming up to solve some of the frustrating problems people experienced in the VIP demo version – including the introduction of a sprint option for players in the Tarsis.

The VIP demo weekend is long behind us now, but everybody can jump on their consoles or PC and download the Anthem demo client to access the game again between February 1-3.

This will be the last chance you have to try it out before the wait for the full version commences. Many players will be hoping that it feels a lot more complete than the last time they played it.
