Techland gave us a brand new look at the state of Dying Light 2 with a brand new gameplay trailer! Check it out below.

They also premiered a new trailer on July 1, which dove into some of the animation technicalities coming to the game, along with another official gameplay trailer.

What is Dying Light 2 about?

Dying Light 2 is the direct sequel to the original Dying Light, but there are going to be some different elements surrounding the game compared to the first one. We will no longer be following the main protagonist from the first game, Kyle Crane, as if you remember the ending from the first game, he sacrificed himself for the good of Harran. W

e will now be taking the role of Aiden Caldwell, who is a member of the Outcasts, a group of runners that roam around cities in order to achieve their goal. During the May 27th stream, they announced that Aiden is on a mission to find and rescue a certain someone who is the only member of his past.

Speaking of Harran, the setting for Dying Light 2 is going to be another European location which has been named The City. We have received some details surrounding the new location so far, and Techland has noted that it will be around four times larger than Harran.

The City is the new location for Dying Light 2.

Besides this, we do not know much regarding the sequel; but we received a dispatch from devs with some minor notes around the story. During the Dying Light 2 showcase on May 27th, they gave us a few more details around the setting of the second Dying Light.

Essentially, after the events of Harran, National leaders tried to contain the spread of the virus with exclusion zones all 0ver the world. But, there was an outbreak within Geneva, which led to 98% of the population being infected by 2023, and settlements were forced to create walls around cities so they could set up base.

There will be three factions all over New City that are struggling for law and order in the City, and you will be able to side with whoever you choose and these choices will dictate how the city is affected and your reputation among people.

Furthermore, some other content around the sequel is that it is set 20 years after the events of the original Dying Light, and Aiden Caldwell, the main protagonist, has actually been infected to some degree by the zombies. This allows him to take advantage of super-human mechanics such as ledge climbing and other parkour movements, which should be a joy to use in the new urban city.

Monsters and Zombies

In the second developer stream hosted by Techland, they spent an ample amount of time running over some of the zombies featured in the upcoming game. For those who do not know, during the nighttime is when the really terrifying monsters come out to play.

A brand new species called the Revenant was spotlighted during the stream, and we can already tell it is going to be a problem to take down when the game fully releases. Techland also shed some light on how they were able to animate all of the zombies coming in the sequel, and over the course of the game, we are bound to uncover more unknown monsters.

As well, Techland have also released a new website called “Which Kind of Monster Are You?“, which gives players a chance to see what kind of zombie they best suit for Dying Light 2!

Dying Light 2 platforms

Currently, Techland has noted that the sequel is going to be playable on the following platforms.

  • Xbox One
  • Xbox Series X/S
  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 5
  • PC

We do not know if it will be coming to Xbox Game Pass or other streaming services as of now, but these platforms is what we have come to expect out of AAA games lately.

Will there be choices in Dying Light 2?

We cannot wait to explore the new urban settlement Dying Light 2

Being an open-world RPG, Dying Light was filled with choices that impacted the game drastically. Most notably, the final decision that players were dealt with dictated the ending they would receive at the conclusion.

During the demo showcase of Dying Light 2, Techland gave us a sneak peek into how choices are going to alter the effects of the world immensely. One instance saw Aiden have to choose between trusting a fellow soldier or opting to fight off a horde of zombies. Choosing one over the other resulted in the city being burned to a crisp, and ultimately impacting the story greatly.

Techland showcased during the live stream on May 27th that they will be putting a major emphasis on decisions within the sequel. Within the story, all decisions you make in regards to the three factions will have a drastic impact on characters, reputation, and environment. They noted that you will have to be diligent with who you side with and the choices you can make, as you can make the world of Dying Light 2 whatever you want.

For now, this is all we know regarding Dying Light 2, but be sure to tune back into this page once Techland goes live on May 27th, 2021. As we are sure to learn new details surrounding the sequel, and hopefully, we finally learn a release date!
