Professional Fortnite player Jake ‘Poach’ Brumleve doesn’t agree with the sentiments of some of his colleagues with regards to the Grappler.

The Grappler was added to the game as part of the V5.40 update on September 6 and gives players the chance to latch onto objects and traverse towards them at high speeds.

It didn’t take long for top players to get the hang of using the new item and some, like FaZe Clan’s Tyler ‘Tfue’ Tenney, have already expressed the opinion that it is “too much” when used by the pros.

However, Poach disagrees. The Team Liquid man was discussing the subject while playing with Ninja, NICKMERCS and timthetatman recently and explained that the Grappler gives players a chance in some of the more difficult late game scenarios.

“A lot of these mobility items really just buff the double barrell a lot. But I was gonna say, like, those ending zones, like, with the Grappler addition it’s super nice,” he says. “When you end on the side of a mountain, everyone just died on the side of a mountain, unless you had high ground, but now the Grappler actually gives you a chance to get back up.”

Whether you fall more on the side of Tfue or Poach, it’s hard to deny the fact that the Grappler is one of the most powerful items to be added to the game in recent memory.

Couple that with the fact that professional players already seem to be about 50 moves ahead of the average user and it’s easy to understand why some people think it needs to be removed or nerfed.

From a spectator’s point of view, though, watching what some people are capable of doing with the mobility aid is incredibly entertaining.
