Epic Games is hosting a $250,000 tournament on the official Fortnite Twitch channel, but participants are experiencing a frustrating amount of lag.
The Summer Skirmish feature top YouTubers, streamers and pros from the world of Fortnite playing duo matches until a single team wins two matches.
Unlike the Friday Fortnite series that has squads playing indirectly against each other by counting eliminations, Epic Games has provided custom matchmaking to get everyone battling in the same game.
Unfortunately, the stress of a custom matchmaking involving players from around the world has proved too much for Epic’s servers so far.
Here are the best, or maybe worst, laggy moments from the Fortnite Summer Skirmish.
Most of the lag involves players running from the storm, since they are used to being able to expertly stay out of it right along the edge. However, the lag is causing players to not be able to tell where the edge is.
Every streamer is live on their own channel, with the official Fortnite Twitch page switch around between all the broadcasts. This has led to some incredibly awkward moments where streamers are bashing Epic on their own page.
The casters on Epic’s channel have commented on the lag towards the end of the stream, saying they will try to work out the server issues and some hiccups were to be expected in the first week of the eight part event.
Update: Epic has commented on the server situation with a tweet. The tournament has been cut short.
