An all new Drum Gun is coming to Fortnite soon, announced today by Epic Games through the in-game news feed.
According to Epic, the Drum Gun is a “new weapon with a high capacity drum magazine and a quick rate of fire.” This confirms earlier reports about the weapon being added to the game.
The Drum Gun does about twice the damage at a little more than half the fire rate of the SMG in Fortnite, with a significantly larger magazine. It is more closely compared to a fast firing AR.
Call of Duty fans will instantly recognize the Drum Gun as the M1928 Thompson SMG from previous titles. In CoD:WW2, the Thompson does not have a Drum magazine by default, but one can be added through the Extended Mags attachment.
The Thompson is a signature United States weapon, and is associated with both the second World War as well as many a gangster film.
Storm Shield One already has the stats of the Drum Gun:
With a giant space time hole in the sky after the rocket launch and fans speculating wildly about time travel becoming possible, it would seem the 1920’s era Thompson fits into that theory.
The Drum Gun will be available as an Uncommon and Rare weapon when it launches. As the first classic weapon in Fortnite, some significant changes to the map might be on the way as well.
