FaZe Clan Call of Duty captain Thomas ‘ZooMaa’ Paparatto has revealed which players the team almost picked up for Black Ops 4.

With Call of Duty moving to five-versus-five for competitive play in Black Ops 4, even teams that were happy with their existing rosters were forced to add to their roster in the post-WWII off-season.

FaZe Clan decided to stick with the squad that they fielded for the entirety of the WWII season, the highlight of which was a victory in Stage 1 of the CWL Pro League, and add former OpTic Gaming player Anthony ‘Methodz’ Zinni.

Though the team is confident in their new fifth, according to ZooMaa he wasn’t the only option they pursued. Though it may come as a surprise to many, he admitted during the CoD Blast podcast that FaZe was initially looking to pick up another SMG player, despite already having three very capable players in the role.

“To us, the more fast-paced subs you can get on a team the better,” ZooMaa explained, “because we have so many people that can run an AR on our team.”

As a result, the team pursued Cuyler ‘Huke’ Garland and Tyler ‘aBeZy’ Pharris during the off-season, ultimately unsuccessfully – though their interest in signing these players was accurately reported by notorious anonymous leaker the CoDBurner.

Huke stayed with the Envy organization and was joined there by the former Evil Geniuses squad that won the 2018 Call of Duty Championship. Meanwhile, aBeZy went to eUnited alongside Jordan ‘JKap’ Kaplan.

In the end, ZooMaa states, FaZe decided that they didn’t want to risk losing Methodz by taking too long exploring their options, and the team is very happy with their decision.
